Moena
Culture, history and traditions
THE TOWN
Moena rises up from a wonderful alluvial bowl surrounded by some of the most attractive Dolomite ranges such as the Latemar Group, the Valaccia and the green foothills of the Costalunga Pass.
Moena is the most populated town of the Val di Fassa. Known both in Italy and abroad as the "Fairytale of the Dolomites", it completely encompasses the fascination and ancient attractiveness that recall tales that have gradually been lost over time.
For some years, Moena has also been known as an Alpine Pearl, the only tourist destination of the region of Trentino to form part of this sought-after group.
The town, very well looked after in terms of architecture, distinguishes itself through its captivating elegance and refined boutiques, which visitors can make the most of to satisfy their desires for high-class shopping. What's more, over the last few years, Moena has shown itself to be extremely appreciative of the Ladin culinary tradition and hosts popular food and wine events such as "A cena con Re Laurino" (Dinner with King Laurino) in winter and "Sapori d'Autunno" (Tastes of the Autumn) in September.
Moena is also home to the Alpine Training Center of the State Police, which is of extreme importance for the security services and a provider of emergency mountain aid both in the summer and winter. The barracks, as well as hosting the sports section of the State Police and the canine unit (highly specialised and involved in searching for people swept away by avalanches), are also a base for lots of mental, physical and specialised training courses of staff.
MOENA IN SUMMER
During the summer, the town offers visitors lots of walking routes and trails of various difficulties for mountain bikers. Nowadays, the town is a well-known home to bikers and here we find the route for the "Val di Fassa Bike"; an event that attracts participants from all over Europe.
In summer, the mountains offer various opportunities for you to spend a great holiday with the whole family. An extremely rich programme of events and an agenda filled with outdoor activities; the Dolomites really know how to involve, entertain and above all show a good time too those spending a few days in Moena .
MOENA IN WINTER
In winter, Moena turns into a fairytale town where the snow, lights and magical atmosphere of the streets and main squares make the town even more beautiful and lovely than it already is, if you believe it possible!
The Ski Area Tre Valli, which encompasses the ski lifts of Moena-Lusia, San Pellegrino and Falcade, offers our guests breathtaking and snow-filled descents, all connected by a functional network of modern and efficient ski lifts.
For cross-country ski lovers, the Alochet cross-country ski center is a paradise boasting a good 15 km of slopes of all levels, immersed in white forests and surrounded by the beautiful mountains of the San Pellegrino Pass.
Certainly, something that's not to be missed if you are a daredevil skier is the Marcialonga, born in 1971 that ignites as much passion and emotion in fans and competitors from across the world as it did in the beginning. Competitors follow a 70 km trail which starts from Moena and ends in Cavalese, a route that takes competitors all the way across the Val di Fiemme and the Val di Fassa.
